Indaba Chardonnay displays bright tropical fruit aromas that lead to a crisp, fresh palate with mouth-filling flavours of apple, pear, honey and pineapple.

This is a 100% Chardonnay from a single 17-year-old trellised vineyard in the Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley in the Walker Bay Region of South Africa.
Grapes are soft-crushed and the must fermented for 14–21 days in French oak barrels (about 20% new). Malolactic fermentation occurs naturally during the 12 months the wine spends year of maturing on the lees, with the wine and lees regularly stirred for mouthfeel and complexity.
The wine shows bright straw yellow colours with golden highlights and ample aromas in scents that recall tropical fruits and grapefruit, mingling with hints of oatmeal, caramel and nutmeg. Medium-bodied with richly complex fruit flavours.
Clay amphorae were used in addition to French oak barrels for this single-block wine. Enjoy subtle oak characters with notes of citrus, followed by subtle notes of honey and butterscotch.

This offering is produced from shy-bearing vineyards that are situated on Babylon Farm in the Ward of Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, Walker Bay. The wine, a clear and true reflection of the potential of the unique soils and maritime site situated in the hills above Hermanus, is released a year after vintage as a prime example of maritime influenced Chardonnay.
With strong influence of Alex Dale’s upbringing in Burgundy, the making of this Chardonnay is also adapted to our particular conditions in this ocean-facing part of the Cape – our mineral geology and temperate maritime climate both lending much to the equation. Restraining acidity, citrus flavours and integrated oaking, the introverted side of its character; ripeness and great persistence on the palate the more expansive side. Genuinely mineral, with a crisp lime- citrus edge and an elegant yet intense durability. A Chardonnay striving to be individual, focused on backbone and not butter.
Condensed flavours elevated by this vineyard’s rapier – like freshness. Ripe limes & waxy honeycomb are illuminated by sharp ginger and lemon zest, with an airy scent of jasmine. Succulent citrus fruit in the mouth, ladled with lees texture and buttery brioche, narrowing to a racy, lively finish.
The Family Vineyards Chardonnay is comprised of three vineyards sites from the farm, widely varied in their exposure to the sun. The vibrancy, clear cut structure and long flavour we perceive from these granite slopes is our safeguarded jewel.
